Sisters of Notre Dame Joyfully Sharing God's Goodness and Provident Care
SND Ministries SND Associates SND Vocation Partnership for Mission
Each day we invite you to read the Sunday Gospel, focusing on one aspect.

  1. Place yourself in an attitude of receptivity to the word that God wishes to reveal to you at this particular time.
  2.  Slow your mind, gradually becoming still inside and out. Sit in that stillness for a moment, being aware that God is as present as your every breath.
  3. Invite God into your life now.
  4. Read the Gospel slowly, preferably audibly.
  5. Select a day of the week from the list below.
  6.  Spend a few prayerful moments with the focus of that day.

    Sunday    Monday    Tuesday   Wednesday

Thursday    Friday     Saturday

Saturday

"And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."

Step into Peter’s shoes as he hears these awesome words from Jesus.
Do you ever feel overwhelmed by what is asked of you? What calms and grounds you at those times?
Experience that grounding now as you enter into your day.

Heritage word—"Let us work, let us accomplish everything under the eyes of God in the pure simplicity of faith, asking the Lord, who is our loving Father, for the grace of doing always what is most pleasing to him and what will glorify him most. And then let us go to him with all our hearts, as to our Father."

(St. Julie Billiart, Spiritual Mother of the Sisters of Notre Dame)

Week of July 6, 2008

Gospel for the Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time—Matthew 11:25-30

"At that time Jesus exclaimed: ‘I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to little ones. Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him. Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.’"

Sunday
Remain in Jesus’ presence, letting his message rest in you.
What part strikes you?
Spend some time getting to know this Jesus.

Heritage word—"Recollect yourselves in the holy presence of the good God."

(St. Julie Billiart, Spiritual Mother of the Sisters of Notre Dame)

Monday

"At that time Jesus exclaimed: ‘I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to little ones."

Listen to Jesus praising His Father.
What does that tell you about their relationship?
What kind of relationship do have or desire to have with God?

Heritage word—"Through our active apostolate we may never short circuit our life of union with God."

(Mother Mary Vera, 5th Superior General of the Sisters of Notre Dame)

Tuesday

"At that time Jesus exclaimed: ‘I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to little ones."

Do you feel you are among the "wise" or are you one of the "little ones"?
Ask God to reveal to you what you need for drawing closer to Him.

Heritage word—"God’s best blessing for your little ones and blessing for your whole family and your household."

(Sr. Mary Aloysia, Foundress of the Sisters of Notre Dame)

Wednesday

"All things have been handed over to me by my Father."

What does this say about Jesus’ preparation for His own mission?
What has the Father handed over to you for your purpose in life?
Ask for a deepening appreciation of how the Father has gifted you for your mission in life.

Heritage word"May God keep you healthy and vigorous and cheerful so that you can fulfill all your duties with a happy heart."

(Sr. Mary Aloysia, Foundress of the Sisters of Notre Dame)

Thursday

"No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him."

What insight do you get from these words of Jesus?
Whom do you desire to know more--the Father or the Son?
Why is that?

Heritage word"Let us bless the Lord at all times! May Jesus live in us!"

(St. Julie Billiart, Spiritual Mother of the Sisters of Notre Dame)

Friday

"Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest."

Hear Jesus addressing these words to you.
How do they make you feel?
Move into your day knowing that God is your Strength no matter what happens.

Heritage word"As God wills!"

(Sr. Mary Aloysia, Foundress of the Sisters of Notre Dame)
