“He summoned the crowd with his disciples and said to them, ‘Whoever wishes to come after me must deny him-/herself, take up his/her cross, and follow me. For whoever wishes to save his/her life will lose it, but whoever loses his/her life for my sake and that of the gospel will save it.’”
Taking up our cross is living with the consequences of following Jesus.
Sit with these words of Jesus as they are addressed to you.
With your eyes on Jesus and knowing that he is always with you, what would help you follow him more readily?
Heritage word—“Perhaps imagining ourselves on Calvary and allowing our senses to enter fully into that dreadful scene will rid us of those illusions which blind us, thus bringing us closer to that gracious ‘experience’ of Jesus for which we yearn.”
